Credit Card Processing On The iPad Is The New Black... Amirite, Eventbrite?

Credit Card Processing On The iPad Is The New Black... Amirite, Eventbrite?

March 21, 2012
Following closely after the launch of Square Register and Paypal Here, here comes another innovative credit card reader for iPad. This time, the new POS card processing setup is from online ticketing platform Eventbrite. Eventbrite today announced the release of the At The Door Card Reader, an iPad dongle that works in conjunction with the At The Door app. As their branding suggests, the hardware and software pair allow event organizers to collect credit card payments "at the door." The At The Door app is absolutely free to download, while the At The Door Card Reader is virtually free. Why virtually free? As an organizer, you will have to purchase the reader from Eventbrite's new online store, Brite Store, for $10, but for a limited time the same amount will ultimately be reimbursed to your Eventbrite account. The At The Door Card Reader connects to your iPad via the latter's 30-pin adapter. Once the At The Door app detects the reader, you're ready to process credit card transactions with remarkable ease and speed. Eventbrite claims that the At The Door setup can process over 400 transactions in an hour. Of course, you can still accept cash payments using the app. "At The Door transforms an off-the-shelf iPad into a paradigm-shifting tool for managing sales for events," said Eventbrite CEO and Co-Founder Kevin Hartz. "We’re essentially taking the devices that are proliferating among consumers and transforming them into perfectly-tailored tools for event organizers, at no cost, and with greater impact than anything previously available." Launched last December, the At The Door app has also been updated to support wireless printing using Star printers. This added feature makes for a truly mobile box office solution, enabling you to generate paper receipts as well as online receipts. And as before, the app lets you collect attendees' names and email addresses so that you can, say, get in touch with your customers about future events. With this big move towards total POS mobility, Eventbrite looks set to take on not only Square and Paypal but also Ticketmaster. Have you bought your tickets to this battle royale in the making?
