Discover A Hidden Gem Of A Game As You Recover Stolen Gems

March 28, 2012
Of the thousands and thousands of games available in the App Store, only a select few get to enjoy a long life span in the minds, and even hearts, of iOS users. Of course, you can't talk about App Store longevity without mentioning the Angry Birds franchise. Personally, though, I see myself playing Whale Trail for the rest of my iLife, as frequently as I have been playing it since its launch last year. Often, what determines the durability of an iOS game is a calibrated mixture of media hype and word of mouth. The absence of either or, worse, both can make a new game fade into oblivion without so much as a fizzle. It's a fate I wish Tree Top Games' Fade: Case of the Stolen Diamonds never to meet, seeing as it looks to be one of the more fascinating iOS games to appear in the App Store. Fade: Case of the Stolen Diamonds has an old-fashioned charm to it, as befits its film noir inspiration. Indeed, from its black and white visuals to its classic-sounding detective soundtrack, Fade is heavily influenced by the crime films of long ago. But that's not the only noteworthy thing Fade has going for it, as it also possesses a rather clever gameplay. Watch the trailer below to discover just how clever it is. If you can't see the video embedded above, please click here. Fade follows the sleuthing efforts of Pete, a mouse detective from the Fade Haven Police Department, who is tasked to catch the rat thief who stole the diamonds in all of Fade Haven. By touching and holding on the screen to make brick walls and floors fade in each of the 70 brain-teasing levels, you can guide Pete towards collecting the embezzled gems and apprehending the culprit. To a certain extent, Fade is rather like Beat Sneak Bandit without the rhythm-based gameplay and bright colors. I'm just hoping Fade would get to enjoy the kind of attention Beat Sneak Bandit has had. Currently available only for the iPad, Fade: Case of the Stolen Diamonds can be downloaded now in the App Store for $0.99.
