Roll Over, Sonic - There's A New Rolling Hedgehog In Town
March 25, 2012
With its second update since its launch just a couple of weeks ago, Rollerhog addresses a widespread malfunction that crashes the app while the title character is rolling around Hogland. Neon Play, the developer of Rollerhog, says that another update, which, unlike this one, will be something big, is already in the works.
Rollerhog bears the distinction of being the first iOS app to be developed by a major U.K. games studio based on an idea originating outside of the company. Rollerhog is actually the idea of Patrick Jamison, a 42-year old landlord from Ascot. Jamison emerged as the winner of the nationwide "Design an App" contest organized and judged by Neon Play in cooperation with several media partners.
"Everyone always says 'I've got a great idea for an iPhone game,' but now, someone who had a great idea has actually had the opportunity to see it made," said Neon Play CEO Oli Christie. "We received hundreds of entries from all over the U.K. and even one from as far afield as Singapore, but Patrick's idea stuck with us because we knew it had the potential to become something really great. It's turned out to be a fun and addictive game which is proving popular with kids and adults alike." Watch the trailer for the game below.

Rollerhog has been described as the lovechild of Andreas Illiger's Tiny Wings and ustwo's Whale Trail, and I couldn't agree more with this description. Rollerhog follows a cute and cuddly hog as it rolls along a psychedelically colorful landscape. As in those two other iOS games, you need only one finger to play Rollerhog. With that one finger, you'll control Rollerhog as it dodges everything that gets in its way, from sunflowers and bunnies to spiders and crocodiles. And whereas Tiny Wings and Whale Trail have Fever Mode and Frenzy Mode, respectively, Rollerhog has Hyper Mode.
Rollerhog is a universal iOS game available in the App Store for only $0.99. Rollerhog's hedgehog may not be sonic, but it looks geared up for good rollicking fun.
