Silent Film Director Gains A New Audio Track, Plus Three New Video And Three New Audio Options
March 3, 2012
The third major update to Silent Film Director, formerly Vintage Video Maker, was made available in the App Store earlier today. MacPhun has provided several new capabilities in Silent Film Director v3.0, including a new audio track, a new video speed, and the iPhone 4S' full HD capture capability.
Arriving as the sixth video speed adjustment option, 1.15x is "traditionally used in Silent Films for close-up scenes," as pointed out by MacPhun in the app update log. Along with another video speed option, Silent Film Director now allows variable speed playback, from slow to fast or vice versa, plus a reverse setting. I can picture people doing epic rewind time lapse videos like one of the final scenes in Donnie Darko.
Even though it's called a silent movie, that just means no audio dialog. So, we still need something to set the mood, right? Bumping the total to nine built-in audio backing tracks, Sock Hop is a nice change from the very iconic piano-centric tunes already contained within Silent Film Director. Added effects for audio in v3.0 consist of being able to place "noise" in audio tracks for a retro feel and have the audio fade in and out.
If you have the Pro mode, available as a $0.99 in-app purchase, MacPhun lists the following editing tool additions brought along in Silent Film Director v3.0:
- Split video
- Take picture from the video
- Duplicate video piece
- Flip video
- Play video with original sound
