New Puzzle Game Jellimal Is 'Freemium For A Limited Time'
April 8, 2012
Jellimal is an iPhone game that tells the story of Jellimals, the cute, little inhabitants of the floating islands of Jellimal Land. Jellimals travel by putting themselves inside bubbles and then riding along rails made of clouds. But as might be expected in such stories as this, an immense calamity disrupts the Jellimals' peaceful way of life. Sure enough, a storm strikes Jellimal Land and destroys the cloud rails. In the aftermath of the storm, many Jellimals are left stranded in different islands. Their only means of escape is the Bubble Express, and they need you to get them to it.
Jellimal has nice cartoon graphics coupled with a familiar gameplay. It's a puzzle game in which your aim is to get the three Jellimals in each level to the Bubble Express by drawing lines of cloud rails underneath them. The goal of getting all three Jellimals in each level recalls the gameplay of other, more popular puzzle games like Where's My Water? and Cut the Rope.
The game is available in the App Store for free. Wait, it's not just free, but free for a limited time. Being "free for a limited time," and with the prospect of being sold at a certain price soon, it's not likely to be a freemium game, right? Regrettably, it does offer in-app purchases in more ways than one. The game has four island stages, with the first one available to be played immediately upon download (which is just normal for games of this kind). The second stage will be unlocked only after you rate the game (maybe unfavorably), while the other two will be available after you make a $0.99 in-app purchase. Another purchase you can make within the game is for Seconddraws, which let you draw a second line of cloud rails in a level. A bundle of ten Seconddraws will also set you back $0.99.
Now, Jellimal seems to ask, "If Angry Birds Space can, why can't I?"
