By The Sound Of It, The New Flipboard With SoundCloud Integration Is Rockin' Good
May 16, 2012
Flipboard is moving to the cloud. SoundCloud, that is.
A new update to the popular social news magazine for iPhone and iPad introduces a rather impressive integration with social sound platform SoundCloud. After installing the update, you need only connect your Flipboard account to your SoundCloud account to start listening to some rad sounds while consuming your favorite social content. Without leaving the app, you can browse SoundCloud to discover new sounds, see what sounds the people you follow on the network have been making, and play the sound lists you've created. As well, you can directly like and comment on sounds, just as you can like and comment on Facebook posts right from Flipboard.
But SoundCloud isn't the only sound source added by the update to Flipboard. The app's Content Guide now hosts an "Audio" category. Aside from featuring SoundCloud, this new category highlights radio programming from NPR and PRI. After selecting a track in the brand new audio section, you're free to browse other sections of Flipboard as the audio plays in the background. Think of this setup as your very own Flipboard soundtrack.
Other improvements brought by the update include support for Apple's VoiceOver accessibility option, Pocket (formerly Read It Later) and Readability integration, multiple section selection, and — Konnichiwa! — a fully localized Japanese edition.
The newly updated Flipboard is available in the App Store for free. Isn't this update to an already excellent app just music to your ears?
