Latest Google Search App Update Results In Redesign Of iPhone Version

May 23, 2012
Google has today pushed an update to its universal Google Search app for iOS. The update essentially brings about a complete redesign of the app's iPhone version. If you're wondering why the redesign affects only the iPhone version of the app, it's simply because the iPad version has long undergone its own design overhaul. In fact, today's interface update to Google Search for iPhone is practically an adoption of a similar update that was delivered to Google Search for iPad late last year. Like its iPad counterpart, the new and improved Google Search for iPhone offers a more streamlined searching and browsing experience. When wading through the results of your search, the app now automatically goes into full screen as you scroll down and reverts to the default view with controls once you scroll back up. Selecting a link among the search results swipes the corresponding Web page into view, which now supports in-page text search. Instinctively, you can return to the search results by swiping the Web page away. The iPhone app update also introduces a bottom bar that lets you switch between different modes of searching, including basic Web and dedicated image search. In relation to the latter mode, a full-screen, side-scrolling view of image search results is also included in the update. In addition, an option to save images to your camera roll is now on tap. Note that this last feature is also effective within Google Search for iPad. The newly updated Google Search is available in the App Store as a free universal app. Between this redesign of Google Search for iPhone and the reinvention of Google+ also for iPhone, Google's iPhone app development team appears to be on a roll.
