While you're speeding off to whatever destination this Memorial Day weekend, the updated Speed Tracker app looks like a good companion for that long road trip.
The app, which recently updated to version 4.0, is a combination GPS navigator, speedometer, heads-up display, and trip log/computer.
The updated Speed Tracker is highlighted by complete support for the iPad. A unique dashboard display layout was designed specifically for the tablet and features all the important trip information at a glance on a single screen – in portrait or landscape orientation. The update also brings graphics optimized for the new iPad's Retina display.
Speed Tracker definitely seems to put the old-school, dedicated GPS to shame. Automatically when the app is started, information like your speed, time, location, heading, and elevation is recorded.
The information is then compiled onto a main screen for easy viewing. The heads-up display also looks to be very useful. Instead of displaying the trip information, place your iOS device near the windshield to display the accurate speed.
Speed Tracker is a universal app designed for the iPhone and iPad. It can be downloaded in the App Store for $0.99.
