Third-Party Dolphin Browser Updates iPhone, iPad Versions

May 8, 2012
Just a little more than a month after the last update, new versions of the iPhone and iPad Dolphin Browser have been made live on the App Store. On the iPhone side, Dolphin Browser version 4.1 received a slate of new enhancements. Along with various stability and performance improvements, users can now take advantage of a tab restore feature. Previously opened tabs are restored if the browser is shut down while running in the background. Past sites and searches are now shown in the suggestion list while searching in the URL bar. Finally, the browser will remember the last used keyboard layout. We told you about the last major update of the browser a little more than a month ago. Version 4.0 featured a new voice command function. Dolphin Sonar can be activated by pushing a button or shaking your phone. With Sonar, users can search websites, navigate the browser, or instantly share a link on Facebook or Twitter with just a voice command. Dolphin Browser for iPad also received an update today. Version 4.2 of the app is highlighted by support for the new iPad’s Retina display. The keyboard and browsing history features also appear in the iPad update. Dolphin Browser for the iPhone is currently free and available in the App Store. The Dolphin Sonar feature is available via a $0.99 in-app purchase. Dolphin Browser for iPad is also free, but still does not have the Sonar feature, which will hopefully be changed in a later update. While I still default to Safari on both my iPad and iPhone, the Dolphin Browser does look like an interesting alternative.
