Comic Zeal Comic Reader Enhanced With Retina iPad Graphics And More Super Features

Comic Zeal Comic Reader by Bitolithic is easily the best app for reading comics on an iPhone or iPad — especially on the iPad. It's been around for more than three years, and yet it continues to be updated with useful features. In fact, the app has just received a fresh update earlier today.
The main attraction in the latest update to Comic Zeal is support for the new iPad's Retina display. About time! The new iPad, with its "resolutionary" cluster of pixels, is perfect for reading electronic copies of comic books. And with Comic Zeal's newly added Retina iPad graphics, comic book reading has become an even more pleasant experience. I have a bit of nitpicking to admit to, though: while the update's changelog says "Retina graphics throughout," it appears that the app's help slides have been left out from the "throughout" designation. But then again, the help slides appear only on demand, so it's really no big deal for an app of Comic Zeal's Retina-grade calibre.
In line with the Retina iPad upgrade, Comic Zeal now generates high-resolution thumbnails for devices with Retina display. And speaking of thumbnails, the app now attempts to find thumbnails for a series that happens to have dividers. Other improvements brought by today's Comic Zeal update include series and homepage auto-sorting upon import, permanent termination of back-up for comics downloaded from Bitolithic, and a number of bug fixes.
Comic Zeal Comic Reader is available as a universal app in the App Store for $4.99. An iPhone-only version called Comic Zeal Comic Reader Mini, which hasn't been updated with the above changes, is also available for three dollars less. Whether you like your comics with superheroes or not, Comic Zeal certainly makes for a superb sidekick.
