Screens VNC Gains An Observation Only Mode And Further Improvements
June 8, 2012
Released in February, the Screens VNC v2.0 update included iCloud and AirPlay support as well as UI changes and several other enhancements. In the v2.1 update, Edovia has made further improvements to current features, plus added an observation only mode.
Like nearly any other remote desktop client, Screens VNC was always in a full control mode. While that's certainly the point of the software, some users wanted a way to simply view the remote computer display without the need to interact. So, by popular demand, Edovia has added Observe Mode.
Activated via the Action menu, Observe Mode disables both keyboard and mouse input. However, an observer can still pan around the screen(s) and utilize the zoom gestures. I can't see this as the best training tool since the mode is controlled via the VNC client app, even though it would work, but Observe Mode would be helpful for checking server status, etc without the worry of initiating an unintentional command.
In addition to the new client interaction mode, Screens VNC v2.1 provides:
- Support for SSH Keys that include passphrases
- Fixed password saving issues
- Improved support for international keyboards
- Improved screens management toolbar (iPad)
- Performance improvements
- Bug fixes
