Tumblr 3.0 Features Redesigned Interface Plus Lots Of Goodies

June 21, 2012
The official iOS client of Tumblr has just been updated to version 3.0. In an interview last week at tech founder conference F.ounders, Tumblr CEO David Karp mentioned that a redesign of the app is due this week. And that redesign has arrived today. Apparently inspired by its Android counterpart, the updated Tumblr for iOS features a new interface that is more streamlined than the previous one. Tumblr now has four tabs: Dashboard, Radar, Account, and Post. Dashboard is where you browse the posts from the blogs you follow on the social network, while Radar is where you can you can see some of the most popular posts at the moment. You can also do a tag search within Radar. The Account tab takes you to a list of all your Tumblr blogs. Here you can see the posts, followers, and messages that are tied to any of your blogs. All notifications can now also be read here, as opposed to being scattered inside Dashboard like before. The Post tab is probably the most interesting part of the app's redesign. Sure, you can naturally tap it to start composing a post for any of your blogs. But now you can also swipe it up to reveal the camera, à la the iOS lock screen's shortcut. And that's not all: you can also swipe it to the left to go directly to a blank text post. In addition, Tumblr 3.0 boasts high-res images, Spotify integration, and improved post forms. It also supports offline posting, liking, replying, and reblogging. Presumably, your offline activities are queued for processing as soon as you're back online. Tumblr 3.0 is available now in the App Store for free. It's a nice improvement on the previous version, which was serviceable at best. Regrettably, though, it doesn't have the one feature I was most looking forward to: native iPad support.
