Apple Reportedly Working On Two New Cases For Next-Generation iPhone

July 30, 2012
While it’s looking like the next-generation iPhone will be announced in around six weeks, Apple is apparently also hard at work on two new cases for the handset, according to iLounge. The first is very similar to the familiar Apple Bumper that made its debut with the iPhone 4’s introduction in 2010. The site called that case “a lock” for release. But the second case is definitely more interesting. It’s described as a different design and “will have a major impact on the accessory market” if Apple chooses to release it. The site speculates that it could be a case with a built-in kickstand. There are a number of third-party cases with a stand, like the pictured Incase Snap Stand Case. I’ve tried a few out, but have never been enormously pleased with any solution. The stands have always felt flimsy and very prone to breaking. When I’ve wanted to stand my iPhone up, I thought a dock that charged my phone at the same time was always a better solution – even though it doesn’t work in landscape mode. As for the iPad mini, which will apparently make its debut before the end of the year, the site says that Apple is unsurprisingly designing smaller versions of the Smart Cover and Smart Case. Recently, iLounge has been spot-on with its iOS device accessory information. Before the launch of the new iPad in March, the site reported on the Smart Case for the iPad that made its debut after the WWDC keynote in June. Source: iLounge
