Chrome Download Manager Jailbreak Tweak Offers A Better Downloading Experience

July 30, 2012
Since Chrome for iOS launched in the App Store, countless jailbreak tweaks promising to improve the popular, free application have been released. Included in the original bunch is Chrome Download Enabler, which - as its name suggests - makes it possible for Chrome-users to download files from within the application, to their iDevice. However, a new Chrome downloading jailbreak tweak has launched in the Cydia Store, which promises to much improve the process. Its name is Chrome Download Manager. One of the problems with Chrome Download Enabler is its interface, and limited user functionality. Indeed, as we said ourselves when covering the tweak some time ago, the package is certainly no Chrome-version of the popular Safari Download Manager. Fortunately, Chrome Download Manager looks promising. Like Chrome Download Enabler, this new jailbreak tweak allows users to download files on a jailbroken iDevice, from within the free Chrome app. But unlike the older tweak, Chrome Download Manager offers users an impressive interface, and a bunch of additional features. First up, users can enjoy receiving notifications when an item has finished downloading in the background in Chrome. Plus, users can queue downloads too, which is handy. As you might expect, all downloaded files are placed in "var/mobile/Media/Downloads," allowing users to access the files easily via a third-party jailbreak or desktop app. Finally, Chrome Download Manager supports the following files:
  • zip
  • .rar
  • .iso
  • .dmg
  • .ipsw
  • .deb
  • .torrent
  • .mp3
  • .pdf
  • .jpg
  • .avi
  • .doc
The only problem with this jailbreak tweak is its numerous bugs, which hopefully will be corrected in a future version of the package. Currently, Chrome Download Manager can be downloaded for the introductory price of three dollars in the Cydia Store (via the ModMyi repository). Below, we've included a video walkthrough of the tweak provided by iDownloadBlog.
