Food For Thought: Allrecipes.com Wants To Know Your Recipe For Happiness

July 24, 2012

The famous American chef and food writer once said, “Food is our common ground, a universal experience.” Allrecipes can certainly attest to this as it celebrates its 15th anniversary with a #RecipeForHappiness or two from each of its members.

Back in 1997, CookieRecipe.com was launched, paving the way for other sites such as BreadRecipe.com and ChickenRecipe.com. Eventually, these specific recipe sites were merged into one all-embracing site aptly called Allrecipes.com.

And in the 15 years since the first cookie recipe was shared on that seminal recipe site, Allrecipes has become the foremost online community for food enthusiasts.

In celebration of this milestone, Allrecipes has started a social media campaign dubbed #RecipeForHappiness.

As Allrecipes puts it, “Food brings people together and shared recipes create an opportunity for one person’s recipe to contribute to another person’s happy moment.”

In line with this, Allrecipes is encouraging you to participate in the campaign by tagging your delicious photos on Facebook and Instagram with #RecipeForHappiness. You can also visit Allrecipes’ Facebook app to customize your own #RecipeForHappiness recipe card.

In addition to the #RecipeForHappiness feel-good movement, Allrecipes has launched a special anniversary sale for Allrecipes.com Dinner Spinner Pro. One of the most highly rated iPhone apps in the App Store’s Food & Drink category, Dinner Spinner Pro is available for only $0.99 until Aug. 5.

Allrecipes fully acknowledges the important role its mobile presence has played in its success. In fact, visits to Allrecipes.com from a mobile device now make up 26% of total visits, as opposed to only 7% a year ago. What’s more, Allrecipes’ mobile apps, including Dinner Spinner Pro, has topped 14 million downloads.

Clearly, Allrecipes has been through quite an appetizing journey.
