Newly Updated Bitly For iPhone Is Not Short On Important Features
July 15, 2012
The official iOS client of the popular URL shortener bit.ly has just been updated with several new features.
The app, simply called bitly, offers practically the same ease of use as its desktop counterpart. Of course, it lets you shorten links into bit.ly bookmarks or bitmarks. But it also lets you access pertinent information about your bitmarks as well as view their corresponding webpages.
Sharing has always been the focus of bit.ly. Why else would you shorten a link other than to make sharing it easier? So, bitly offers automatic sharing tools via email or through your connected accounts on Twitter or Facebook.
In line with this, the latest update to the app enhances Facebook sharing with the option to include an image. Moreover, it adds the ability to display how many others have saved your bitmarks, with the possibility of seeing who they are provided that they're in your network.
The update also enables the customization of any bitmark's shortlink, which has long been my favorite feature of bit.ly. This allows for the specification of a mnemonic shortlink instead of a meaningless combination of uppercase and lowercase letters.
Designed for iPhone and iPod touch but also compatible with iPad, bitly is available in the App Store for free. In short: bit.ly/bitlyios.
