Angry Birds Gets Powered Up While On Summer Vacation

August 2, 2012
The game that started it all is at it again. I am, of course, talking about the original Angry Birds, which just moments ago has flown into another major update. Today's update mainly builds up on the game's previous one, which was released last March. If you'll recall, the previous update to Angry Birds delivered a new chapter in the ongoing fowl vs. swine saga called Surf and Turf:
It's a beautiful day at the beach … till the pigs show up! Can the Angry Birds rescue their eggs in time to have some fun in the sun?
Surf and Turf began with a total of 15 levels. And now, thanks to the game's latest update, more levels have been added to this summery chapter:
The piggies continue their beach vacation with fifteen new tropical levels — but the vacation’s gonna end when the birds show up!
The update also introduces power-ups to Angry Birds. Now you can three-star even the most challenging (or is "infuriating" a more fitting description?) levels with four special power-ups, namely: King Sling, Birdquake, Super Seeds, and Sling Scope. King Sling offers maximum power and velocity. Birdquake brings the pigs' defenses crashing to the ground. Sling Scope provides laser targeting for pinpoint precision. And finally, Super Seeds turn any bird into a pig-popping giant. Power-ups come in a variety of in-app purchase bundles. But as a bonus, you automatically get 20 free power-ups upon installing the update. You also get to earn a free power-up just by checking back daily. Angry Birds for iPhone and Angry Birds HD for iPad are available in the App Store for $0.99 and $2.99, respectively. Oh, and on top of all of those aforementioned enhancements, Angry Birds HD has been optimized for the third-generation iPad's Retina display. Finally! Squawk!
