The AppAdvice iOS 6 Quick Pick: App Store, Music And Siri

August 7, 2012
Since Apple released iOS 6 beta 4, we've come across a number of new features, including Bluetooth sharing, changes to the Maps app, and the loss of the native YouTube app. Here are some other goodies we found in the latest iOS 6 beta sent to developers. App Store In the App Store for iPad, Apple has added a new option bar at the top of the screen. Here you’ll find five action buttons: All Categories, Books, Business, Catalogs, and More. Under Catalogs, you’ll find a list of the hottest and top catalog apps currently available for iPad. Clicking on More presents a pull-down menu showing the App Store’s entire list of app categories. Additionally, links to Games and Newsstand include sub-categories. For example, under Games you’ll see Casino, Kids, Music, and many more. Note: Dan from AllThingsD correctly noted via Twitter that this feature arrived with iOS 6 beta 1. Still, it is very cool! Music Apple has added a great new feature to the native Music app. Under Albums, you’ll now see every song that was originally released with the collection – even those songs you haven’t purchased. But, don’t worry; Apple has made it easy to complete your album. Just click on “Download” next to each song and you’ll be good to go. Siri Siri's help section (under the "i" tab) has been updated with new examples on features of iOS 6, including those for sports and movie listings. For example, you can now say, “Did the Red Sox win?” and Apple’s voice recognition system will answer the question. Apple is expected to release iOS 6 to the public this fall. Keep in mind, some of the features mentioned here and elsewhere may not be included in the final iOS 6 release. Developers who have found other new features in iOS 6 beta 4, please let us know by emailing tips@appadvice.com. We thank readers Lance and Frank A. for many of these tips.
