CarTunes Is Bigger And Better With iPad Optimization And More

August 17, 2012
Featuring large area input via simple gestures, CarTunes offers a lenient music control interface for driving. The concept is a balancing act of simplicity and functionality that hasn't appeased all users quite, but Ryan Oksenhorn proves his dedication for perfection through regular updates. In fact, the recent release of CarTunes v6.0 includes further adjustments to music library navigation, iPad optimization, and more. As part of the CarTunes v5.0 release, Oksenhorn incorporated a revamped music browser. The revised music navigation system consisted of list reorganizing, new graphics, and an album artwork wall for album selection. In CarTunes v6.0, the display of most lists has changed again, typically adding more information.
  • Artist Browsing: Albums are displayed separately.
  • Album Browsing: Album artwork is accompanied by printed album and artist name.
  • Album Viewing: Track numbers are displayed over the album artwork.
  • Playlist Browsing: Display of album artwork provides a preview of content.
Creating a consistent experience, the iPad UI contains the same general design. The exceptions being a grid view for artist browsing, not just albums, and continuous access to the playback control and current song information pane. Enabled and disabled within Settings, song information can now include star ratings as well as shuffle and repeat status indicators. CarTunes Music Player is a universal app compatible with iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch running iOS 5.0 or later, and available in the App Store for $4.99. [gallery link="file"]
