Mobile Payment System Highlights New Dunkin' Donuts App

August 16, 2012
Not content to let coffee king Starbucks rule the mobile payment world, Dunkin’ Donuts has introduced its iOS app today with a number of features sure to make any fan of the chain happy. Probably the best feature of the app is its mobile payment capabilities. Users can pay for food and drink by tapping which DD Card they want to use. Hand your phone over with the barcode to be scanned, and that’s it. The capability is available in most of the 7,000 locations in the United States. DD Cards can also be managed and reloaded directly through the app. To help spread some cheer, users can also send a virtual DD Card via text message, email, and Facebook. If you’re in an unfamiliar neighborhood and wanting a cup of coffee, the app will find the nearest location. The app also provides the chain’s full menu and nutritional information for all of its items. The Dunkin’ Donuts app is designed for the iPhone/iPod touch but is compatible with the iPad. It can be downloaded in the App Store for free. And expect to hear more about mobile payments soon. Dunkin’s app comes one day after Best Buy, Target, Walmart, and other retailers announced forming the Merchant Customer Exchange that is promising to bring a unified and reliable payment system to almost any smartphone.
