Twitter Just Got Sliced And Diced
August 3, 2012
Even as a cloud of uncertainty looms over the future of Twitter client developers owing to Twitter's, well, uncertain guidelines, new Twitter apps still keep popping up. And the latest notable one to do so is Slices for Twitter.
Developed by OneLouder as a sort of improvement on its TweetCaster app, Slices is so named because of its key feature. In a nutshell, Slices lets you sort tweets into "slices."
Upon logging in to the app for the first time, Slices starts you off with three automatically generated slices.
For me, it came up with Science & Tech, TV & Movies, and News. No surprise there, as most of the users I follow on Twitter fall under those categories.
If you'd like to have more slices, creating a slice is as easy as creating a Twitter list. That is to say, it's just as laborious. You still have to select the users that fit into the slice you have in mind, one by one.

Fortunately, you can just go to the app's Explore section. There you can peruse a collection of different categories with preloaded popular users. Think slices, but bigger.
Frankly, I don't see how slices differ significantly from Twitter lists, but slices do offer manageable streams.
Slices for Twitter also offers bookmarking of favorite users and syncing of actions with the app's Web counterpart. Furthermore, just like Tweetbot, Slices has the ability to "zip" or mute certain users, hashtags, and keywords.
Designed for iPhone and iPod touch, Slices for Twitter is available now in the App Store for free. It shows banner ads every so often, but they can be removed through a $4.99 pro upgrade in-app.
Would you like a slice of Slices?
