In a move bound to make iPad toting parents very happy, Netflix has launched its Just for Kids interface for the tablet.
The interface presents movies and TV shows appropriate for children 12 and under with large images of their favorite characters and genres like superheroes, girl power, and sing alongs. It is also available on the company's website and through entertainment consoles like the Apple TV.
To access the section, click the Just for Kids button on the upper left hand side of the app. Netflix is promising to show selections based on what your kids have previously viewed and favorites.
And after playing around with the section for a few minutes on my iPad, I was pleased with what selections were offered. Since the iPad is probably one of the favorite ways to use Netflix in my house, I’m pleased to see the kid-friendly interface.
Here’s a quick introduction video on the Just for Kids section. Click here if you can’t see the video.
The section is only available on the iPad 2 and new iPad. Netflix is promising support for the original iPad later.
Netflix is a universal app available for both the iPhone/iPod touch and iPad and can be downloaded in the App Store now. It was recently updated to also take advantage of iOS 6 and the iPhone 5’s larger, 4-inch screen. The app is free, but users must be subscribed to the streaming service.
