Social Trivia Game Trivie Continues Winning Streak With New Power-Ups And More

October 24, 2012
Trivie, my favorite social trivia game and one of my favorite iOS games of any genre, has just gotten an update worthy of inclusion in trivia books. OK, not really. But the latest major update to Trivie is really quite a doozy. The app's previous major updates brought, among others, chat support and integration with Facebook and Game Center. Now, the new major update, which is apparently its biggest yet, is bringing the following improvements:
  • NEW! Satisfy your thirst for power with 3 awesome new Power-Ups!
  • Bust a trivia move on your pals with improved game creation flow, including a fun and snappy category selection method
  • Improved management of tie games
  • System enhancements to improve app performance
  • Squashed some pesky bugs
All of the above improvements are all well and good. But none is perhaps worthier of further note than the first one. If you can't see the video embedded above, please click here. Trivie is set to be an even more exciting game, thanks to the introduction of a power-up system. As mentioned, the new power-up system features three new power-ups. These power-ups are called 2nd Chance, Hyperdrive, and Streaker. If you think that the probability of you getting an answer wrong is high in a certain category, then 2nd Chance is for you. This power-up will cost you 10 tokens, but it will let you redo one wrong answer as though you had gone back in time. And speaking of time, Hyperdrive gives you less of it but more of the points that you're after to win a game of Trivie. Worth 15 tokens, Hyperdrive reduces your answering time while rewarding you with more points for every correct answer. Finally, there's Streaker. Also worth 15 tokens, Streaker gives you bonus points if you're able to come up with multiple correct answers in a row. Of course, if you don't want to risk your tokens (or you just want to save your tokens to unlock new Trivie avatars), you can always play "powerless" for free. Trivie is available in the App Store for $2.99. A free version of the game is also available, but that lets you earn only half the number of tokens you would with the paid version. Note that Trivie is designed for iPhone and iPod touch only. And even so, the game is not yet optimized for the iPhone 5 and the fifth-generation iPod touch. Perhaps native support for iPad, iPhone 5, and the fifth-generation iPod touch is in the works for the game's next major update. [gallery link="file" order="DESC"]
