Apple Airs Two New iPad mini TV Ads: 'For Your Information, We're Two Of A Kind'

November 11, 2012
Apple has begun airing not one, but two brand new TV ads for the iPad mini. And just as it did in its previous "Piano" ad, Apple puts the iPad mini side by side with the full-size iPad in the two new ads, thereby further emphasizing that the mini tablet is "every inch an iPad." The two new ads are titled "Photos" and "Books," after the two forms of media that are used in the ads to highlight the sameness of function concurrent with the difference in size between the iPad and the iPad mini. If you can't see the video embedded above, please click here. "Photos" sees the two tablets running Apple's photo editing and managing app iPhoto while Bobby Darin and Johnny Mercer's "Two of a Kind" is playing in the background. "For your information," the classic 1960 song asserts, "we're two of a kind." The "we" here, of course, refers to the iPad and the iPad mini in tandem. While one may be smaller than the other, the two devices are equally capable of running the same apps, including the featured iPhoto. If you can't see the video embedded above, please click here. "Books" has the two devices again running the same app, which, in this case, is Apple's e-reading app iBooks. There's no upbeat, lyrically apt background song this time. But, as noted by MacRumors, the pairings of books featured on the iPad and the iPad mini are rather clever. Reminiscent of Apple's use of a "Big" song in the "Piano" ad for the "small" iPad mini, books with comparative titles are used in "Books." These are: Ernest Hemingway's "The Sun Also Rises" and Jack London's "The Valley of the Moon," John Steinbeck's "East of Eden" and Louis L'Amour "How the West Was Won," and Herman Melville's "Moby Dick" and James H. Schmitz's "Gone Fishing." The new ads are now posted on Apple's official YouTube channel. You can also watch both, along with the older "Piano" ad, in the iPad videos section of Apple's website. It's also worth noting that, like the "Piano" ad, "Photos" and "Books" don't have any voiceover track. Indeed, Apple has been doing a great job with its recent ads at letting the different comparisons between the iPad and the iPad mini speak for themselves. Source: Apple on YouTube Via: MacRumors
