Christmas Activity Suggests Apple Remains A Genius As App Store Has Banner Day

Christmas Activity Suggests Apple Remains A Genius As App Store Has Banner Day

December 28, 2012
Apple won’t officially announce holiday sales numbers until late January, but we already have numbers that suggest that they had a terrific quarter. Daily downloads in the App Store on Tuesday, Dec. 25 surpassed those of last year by 87 percent. Of these, iPad downloads and revenues rose by 140 percent, and 83 percent, respectively on the holiday, according to Distimo. Assuming that these numbers translate into iDevice sales, Apple’s decision to launch the iPhone 5, iPad mini, and fourth-generation iPad in the fall could prove genius.

So which apps were new iDevice owners downloading on Christmas Day? Free ones, of course. Here are the Top 10:
  1. YouTube
  2. Google Maps
  3. ElfYourself by OfficeMax
  4. Where’s My Holiday?
  5. Skype for iPad
  6. Subway Surfers
  7. Flow Free
  8. Furby
  9. Instagram
  10. Emoji & Unicode Icons – Special Symbols For Messages & Email
