One Companion App To Rule Them All: Hobbit Movies Updated With New Content

January 5, 2013
To be sure, it's been already three weeks since "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" was released in theaters. But Hobbit Movies, the film's official iOS companion app, has just been updated with new content. Developed by Warner Bros., Hobbit Movies includes various types of content that supplement your experience with the film. In the app, you'll find the following:
  • Interactive Map of Middle-Earth
  • 360º views of scenic locations and settings
  • “The Scroll”, a narrative art piece
  • Peter Jackson’s Production Journals
  • Character image galleries and bios
  • Social integration with Facebook and Twitter
Hobbit Movies has recently received its second update, four months after its launch in the App Store. The app's first update, which was issued a couple of weeks after its release, brought nothing more than the inclusion of the official Hobbit Movies Twitter feed. The app's second update, in comparison, is more feature-packed. It adds not one, but two production blogs. Also, it adds not one, not even two, but 17 character motion pictures. The two new production blogs show director Peter Jackson and crew getting busy three days and two days before the film's premiere. The 16 character motion posters present, in interactive glasses-free 3-D, 17 key characters in the movie: Bilbo, Gandalf, Gollum, Galadriel, Fili, Kili, Oin, Gloin, Dwalin, Balin, Bifur, Bofur, Bombur, Dori, Nori, Ori, and Thorin. Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad running iOS 5.0 or later, the newly updated Hobbit Movies is available in the App Store for free. [gallery link="file" order="DESC"]
