After A Long Winter, Solar Update Brings iPhone 5 Support

After almost six months without an update, the weather app Solar has added a storm of new features and improvements.
Most importantly, version 1.1 finally supports the larger screen of the iPhone 5. While it has been an enormously long wait, the app definitely looks great with the extra screen space.
And on the main weather screen, users can just push and hold to share the weather with friends on Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest.
Along with improved GPS and temperature accuracy, just shake the handset to refresh the weather information.
Solar is designed for the iPhone/iPod touch, but is compatible with the iPad. It can be downloaded in the App Store for $1.99.
The app was originally released last summer. Borrowing some interface elements from popular to-do app Clear, Solar takes the minimalistic approach to weather. Users navigate through the app with different swipe gestures.
In our original review, Christine Chan said she was impressed with gesture system and graphics of Solar, calling it “beautiful to look at but fully functional as well.”
Soon after it was released, Solar also won our coveted App of the Week award.
