AT&T Leaves Some iPhone 5 Users Out In The Cold When It Comes To Weather Alerts

February 8, 2013
Here's hoping some AT&T customers in the northeast have more than their phones to keep them up to date about the approaching major winter superstorm. According to AllThingsD, AT&T can only push out severe weather alerts to certain devices running on the older HSPA network. If you’ve got an LTE-capable device, like the iPhone 5, you’re out of luck. AT&T is working on the problem, and is attempting to have the alerts available for LTE service areas by the end of 2013. The alerts were added to Apple devices as part of iOS 6. Along with severe weather, users can also be informed about any local Amber Alerts that inform of a possible child abduction. You can opt out of receiving the alerts by going to Settings, Notifications, and then toggling the choices in Government Alerts at the bottom of the section. Our own Bryan Wolfe has a very nice roundup of apps that should help you stay prepared and informed of the crazy weather conditions. And if you’re in the path of Nemo, make sure to stay safe and warm. I can’t exactly fathom 2 feet of snow. That’s why I live in Texas, where you can still wear shorts and sandals in the middle of winter. Source and Photo: AllThingsD
