Apple Unveils Find My Friends Update Featuring Revamped Location Alerts

Apple has just unveiled a minor update to its always handy Find My Friends app.
Version 2.1 now features a new UI to search and set location-based notifications. Probably the nicest part of the update is the ability to set a distance threshold from a certain location.
While Find My Friends is a little harder to setup and tweak compared with the very simple Find My iPhone app, it is a nice way to share your location with friends and family who are using iOS devices.
My kids aren’t old enough to be out-and-about by themselves yet, but the Notify Me feature that shares location-based alerts when someone leaves or enters a specific area is definitely something I’ll use in the future.
Find my Friends is a universal app for both the iPhone/iPod touch and iPad/iPad mini. It can be downloaded in the App Store now for free.
If you’re interested in learning more about the app and some of its finer points, our own Dom Esposito did a great iOS Advice segment regarding the app late last year. Definitely check it out.
Also, here’s a quick video that shows how to configure the geo-fencing options with the app. Click here if you can’t see it.
