Official 'Game Of Thrones' iOS Companion App Gets Major Update
March 23, 2013
The popular epic fantasy TV series "Game of Thrones" is set to return for its third season on HBO on Sunday, March 31. And in time for the season premiere, the official iOS app of the book cycle on which the show is based has just been updated with more content.
Released in November last year, the app is called George R. R. Martin’s A World of Ice and Fire – A Game of Thrones Guide.
The app includes hundreds of character profiles, hundreds of place profiles, and interactive maps from the "A Song of Ice and Fire" book cycle. It also offers a customizable anti-spoiler functionality that prevents you from seeing spoilers in the app.
Through its latest update, which happens to be its first major update, the app is expanded with additional profiles for the Men of the Night's Watch, Brotherhood Without Banners, and the Free Folk. It's also enhanced with 30 new illustrations for key places in the series.
The update also includes the ability to search for characters by alias along with improvements to the app's anti-spoiler and map functionality.
Designed for both iPhone and iPad, George R. R. Martin’s A World of Ice and Fire is available in the App Store for free.
The app gives you free access to the profiles of eight point-of-view characters and the interactive maps of the North and the South.
To gain access to more content, you can avail of in-app purchases for the InfoPacks for the five books in the cycle: “A Game of Thrones,” “A Clash of Kings,” “A Storm of Swords,” “A Feast for Crows,” and “A Dance with Dragons.”
The InfoPack for the first book costs $1.99, while the InfoPacks for the rest costs $0.99 each. You can purchase the InfoPacks individually or you can purchase them all at once to save a dollar.
