Shelf Control: Yippee Ki-Yay! This New iPad Movie Magazine Is A-OK

March 26, 2013
If, like me, you love watching movies and reading about them, then this edition of Shelf Control is for you. Now showing on Shelf Control: the new bimonthly movie magazine app Yippee Ki-Yay!. No kidding. That's really the name of the magazine. It is, of course, taken from Bruce Willis' famous catchphrase in the "Die Hard" films. Fittingly enough, the first issue of Yippee Ki-Yay! includes an article on screenwriter Steve E. de Souza and the making of "Die Hard." The article celebrates the 25 years since the release of the original film that has so far spawned four sequels, the latest having been released just last month. But even as it takes its name from the film, Yippee Ki-Yay is definitely not all about "Die Hard." Its first issue, for instance, contains interesting (and at times funny) reviews of recent releases, including "The Last Stand," "Lincoln," "Zero Dark Thirty," "Flight," "Hitchcock," "Wreck-It Ralph," "This is 40," and "Welcome to the Punch." Oh, and there's also a jam-packed preview of the most exciting movies of 2013, including "Iron Man 3," "Kick-Ass 2," and "Man of Steel." There's also an interview with Justin Ishmael, the creative director of the acclaimed poster design boutique Mondo. And finally, there's the inaugural The Greatest Film You've Never Seen feature highlighting a highly recommended yet criminally underrated movie. Really, Yippee Ki-Yay! offers great movie-related content on every page. And I'm already looking forward to the second issue of Yippee Ki-Yay!, which should arrive next week already seeing as the magazine debuted in early February. Compatible with iPad running iOS 5.0 or later, Yippee Ki-Yay! is available in the App Store for free. As always, if you have suggestions for Shelf Control, please feel free to email me at aldrin@appadvice.com or simply leave a comment below. [gallery link="file" order="DESC"]
