New Umano Update Introduces Car Mode, Auto-Playlist Option And My Activity Section

May 19, 2013
Yesterday, I told you about the new Car Mode in the popular podcast app Stitcher Radio. Today, I'm here to tell you about the newly added Car Mode in another app that makes for perfect in-car listening, Umano. Umano is an app that offers "a new way to get your news if you have no time to read at all." This is suggested by its subtitle in the App Store, "News Read to You." Umano has recently received another update, and this update brings, among a couple of other new features, a new Car Mode. As expected, Umano's Car Mode offers easier navigation and playback control while driving with its bigger buttons and swiping gestures. To activate Car Mode in the app, just tap the car icon that appears on the top right navigation bar of the article view when you're listening to an article. The latest update to Umano, which was launched in October last year, also adds a new auto-playlist feature and a new My Activity section. Auto-playlist lets you set the amount of time you have to listen to Umano and the app automatically generates a playlist adapted for your desired play length as well as to your interests. It's just like Readtime, except it's for listening rather than reading. Just tap the Auto Playlist button in the Playlist view to generate your personalized playlist. As for the My Activity section, it shows how many hours you have spent on Umano and which sources and categories you listen to the most, among other bits of information. You can access this new section in the main menu. Optimized for iPhone and iPod touch running iOS 5.1 or later, the new version of Umano is available now in the App Store for free. Early last month, Christine reviewed the app as a "hidden gem" on the occasion of its big 2.0 update. "The best thing about this app is the fact that it can be playing in the background on your device," noted Christine in her review. "So no matter what you’re doing, if you can listen to something, then you can be using this app to stay on top of the news and current events, and even other fun pieces."
