Facebook Likely To Challenge Twitter's Vine With Instagram Video

June 20, 2013
Facebook is about to release a new product. The social giant will hold a press event beginning today, June 20, at 10 a.m. PDT at its headquarters in Menlo Park, Calif. Although Facebook remains mum on what new product they will be announcing, rumors suggest that video-sharing is coming to Instagram. Acquired by Facebook in 2012, Instagram remains one of the most popular photo-sharing apps in the App Store. However, in recent months, Twitter’s Vine has proven that sometimes people want to share video too. Released earlier this year, Vine has become quite popular with users. In fact, earlier this month, Vine passed Instagram in total Twitter shares for the first time. Vine allows users to record and share videos of six seconds in length. According to a previous report, Instagram videos could be between five and 10 seconds in length. Facebook's entry into video-sharing wouldn't just affect Twitter with Vine. Viddy, Cinemagram, and Socialcam, often get described as Instagram for video apps. That distinction could mean far less before the end of the day. AppAdvice will offer full coverage of Facebook's announcement. Until then, you may want to download the free Instagram app and get ready to take some videos.
