Bingo! Language Learning App Duolingo Finally Goes Universal With 2.0 Update
July 12, 2013
A full eight months after its release, the highly rated gamified language learning app Duolingo has finally gone universal through its 2.0 update.
Duolingo was launched in mid-November last year as an app optimized for iPhone and iPod touch only. Now, at long last, the app has been updated with universal support and, as a result, native iPad compatibility.
"Duolingo has been fully redesigned for iPad, the perfect device for learning!" notes the Duolingo team. "You’ll have more screen space to browse your skill tree, see friends, and type in answers."
What's more, Duolingo 2.0 features landscape mode support, not only on iPad but also on iPhone and iPod touch.
Also regardless of which iDevice you use, you can access your stats, strengthen your skills, and see the leaderboard through Duolingo's new sidebar, which happens to be always visible on iPad.
Duolingo 2.0 is available now in the App Store for free. The new version of the app is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad running iOS 5.0 or later.
Currently, Duolingo offers lessons in English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish.
Upon its release, it was reviewed here on AppAdvice and noted as a must-have app that "makes learning a different language fun."
The app's previous duo of major updates added support for offline access and language concept explanations, among other goodies.
