Musician’s Corner: Become A Shredding Guitar God With Lick Of The Day

July 1, 2013
Welcome back to Musician’s Corner, where we talk about apps and accessories for musicians and fans of music. Last week, we went hands-on with the Nessie from Blue Microphones. That is a great product for quick and easy setup and recording. This week, we are going to go back to an old app that has just recently received a new update and makes it possible for you to become the most versatile musician around. Lick of the Day is a video-based music lesson app that features sessions from some of the greats in guitar. You can learn basic blues riffs from Jason Loughlin, jazz licks from Frank Vignola, and melodic rock tunes from Neil Zara, and many more. There are 24 different packs, each containing 25 of the best and most important “licks” for guitarists. That’s 600 licks. If you only practice one per day, you could learn a new guitar riff every day for more than a year and a half. Each lick features a video from your instructor who tells you a bit of history on the subject. Then, you will see a demonstration of the riff and a live tablature rendering of the notes, which is powered by another one of Agile Partners apps Tab Toolkit. There is also a finger placement display so that you can easily see where your fingers should be on the fret board. For each lick, you can switch to practice mode and slow down the audio to a pace that fits your abilities. You can also include metronome clicks and change to left-handed mode. If you know standard musical notation, but not guitar tablature, you can switch the sheet music display from one to the other. You can also loop sections of the lick so that, if you are having a hard time with a specific part, you can replay it over and over again. The app comes with eight sample licks. Two of them have already been downloaded and you can quickly download more with just a tap. Each pack costs $4.99 , except for “25 Melodic Tracks Vol. 1” and “Chord Tricks Vol. 1,” which are both only $2.99 a piece. All packs included two free licks. So, without spending a dime, you will get 48 free daily guitar lessons. Download Lick of the Day for free in the App Store today. Thanks for stopping by Musician’s Corner.
