Yahoo! Weather Updated With UV Index, Increased Forecast And Proudly Purple App Icon
July 3, 2013
Yahoo! Weather, the official iOS weather app of the exclamatory Internet company, has just received its first major update.
Released last April, Yahoo! Weather previously received two minor updates that brought improved language support and a redesigned app icon along with the usual bug fixes and performance improvements.
This time, Yahoo! Weather's first major update also brings some bug fixes while increasing the app's hourly forecast and daily forecast to 24 hours and 10 days, respectively. It also restores the app's icon to its original proudly purple and stylized glory.
Perhaps most importantly, though, the update adds support for displaying ultraviolet information for select countries in the app. Now you can see the UV index in a city's details view, providing a forecast of the risk of overexposure to the sun.
The new version of Yahoo! Weather is available now in the App Store for free. The app is optimized for iPhone and iPod touch running iOS 5.0 or later.
At the recently concluded WWDC, Yahoo! Weather was hailed as one of this year's winners of the Apple Design Awards. Here's Apple's citation for the app:
Yahoo! Weather stands apart with its simple, uncluttered, and beautiful visual design. This highly-rated app displays weather details with stunning photography based on time of day, location, and current conditions. Yahoo! Weather has great layout and typography, compelling animations, fast image processing, and clear iconography. This attention to detail means that in a saturated category, an app can rise above the crowd.Small wonder, then, that Yahoo! Weather appears to be the basis of Apple's redesigned Weather app in iOS 7. [gallery link="file" order="DESC"]
