Ahead Of iOS 7, Most iDevice Owners Are Running iOS 6

September 10, 2013
Most iDevice users are running a version of iOS 6, according to Chitika Insights, indicating that adoption of Apple's next-generation iOS 7 could be particularly impressive. The new data shows that in North America, 92 percent of iPhones are powered by iOS 6 (as pictured above). Apple's earlier iOS 5 presently powers around five percent of North American iPhones, while just two percent run pre-iOS 5 software and one percent have upgraded early to iOS 7 using Apple's Developer program. Most iPads, too, are running iOS 6 in North America, however at 82 percent this figure is slightly smaller. As such, a greater percentage of iPad users - 13 percent - are still running iOS 5, while pre-iOS 5 software accounts for five percent of the Web impressions analyzed by Chitika Insights. Apple's iOS 7 brings radical changes in the appearance of the mobile operating system, and some iDevice owners have voiced their discontent at the design alterations. That being said, if Chitika Insights' data is anything to go by, most of us will be running iOS 7 on our iPhones and iPads this time next year. More information concerning the software's release is expected to be announced by Apple later today, at its special event. As a reminder, the Cupertino, Calif. company's media event will begin at 10 a.m. PDT, and we'll be covering Apple's announcements from start to finish.
