The iPad mini 2 Might Be A Bit Thicker To Accommodate A Retina Display

The iPad mini 2 could be slightly thicker because of the larger battery needed to power a Retina display. That’s according to Japanese site Macotakara, who recently interviewed accessory manufacturers at a Hong Kong tradeshow.
At the China Sourcings Fair 2013, a number of manufacturers were showing off cases for the fifth-generation iPad and the next-generation iPad mini.
As far as the smaller tablet goes, the site saw cases that measured 7.5mm thin, up from 7.2mm in the current iPad mini. The purported cases were also 0.2mm wider.
The increase in thickness and width could easily mirror what happened with the third-generation iPad, the first Apple tablet that sported a Retina display. To accommodate the display, Apple added a substantially larger battery.
Even though the cases aren’t absolute proof that the new iPad mini will feature the crisper display, it is definitely a good sign.
And we won’t have to wait much longer for the tablet to be officially unveiled. Last week, we reported that Apple will introduce the new iPad mini and iPad during a media event on Tuesday, Oct 22. If Apple sticks to their usual pattern, the company will probably send out invitations tomorrow.
