The iPhone 5s Continues To Dominate The iPhone 5c, But Its Lead Is Shrinking
October 28, 2013
When Apple announces its fourth quarter earnings later today, they will only say how many total iPhones were sold between July and September. The company won’t break down iPhone sales by model number.
No worries, as Localytics has published its latest report on iPhone 5s/5c adoption rates.
The company has found that the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c now represent 3.8 percent and 1.7 percent, respectively, of all active iPhones globally. Meanwhile, the iPhone 5 remains the most popular iPhone with an adoption rate of nearly 40 percent.
These numbers suggest that the iPhone 5s has outsold the iPhone 5c by a ratio of 2.33 to 1. This is down from September, when Localytics reported a ratio of 3.4 to 1 during the first three days the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c were available for sale.
Worldwide, iPhone adoption rates are as follows:
According to Localytics, the “timeframe for this data is from when the iPhone 5s and 5c were first released on September 20th, 2013 until October 25th, 2013.” I'm not surprised that the iPhone 5s remains more popular than the iPhone 5c. I'm also not surprised that the level of dominance is getting smaller. Earlier this month, Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP) noted dominance of the iPhone 5s over the iPhone 5c could be temporary "after the initial rush of dedicated upgraders to the newest device." The newer Localytics survey also suggests that the iPhone 5s' lead over the iPhone 5c is already waning.
