Following Acquisition, Yelp Taps SeatMe For Its Restaurant Reservation Booking Service

November 26, 2013
Yelp has just begun offering SeatMe restaurant reservation booking on the Web. In line with this, the popular business rating service has updated its official iOS app to include the new feature. The sole block of text for the release notes of the latest update to Yelp for iOS reads:
Did you burn the turkey dinner? Don't worry about it, you can now make reservations at even more restaurants through the Yelp app with SeatMe.
SeatMe was acquired by Yelp back in July, so the former's integration into the latter shouldn't come as no surprise. Effectively replacing OpenTable, the SeatMe reservation feature, according to Yelp, is "yet another way to help consumers seamlessly close that loop between discovering a great local business and experiencing the best that business has to offer." Now, when you want to go out for some good food with a friend or a group of friends, just tap the "Make a reservation" option in the Yelp iOS app. You can then easily book seats through the app's new reservation feature powered by SeatMe, which boasts a flat fee structure with no per-diner fees. "Not in the mood for food?" asks Yelp. "That’s OK - 20% of SeatMe venues are bars and lounges so you can reserve a seat at that quaint little mixology bar down the street, too." The new SeatMe-integrated version of Yelp is available now in the App Store for free. The app is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad running iOS 6.0 or later. Yelp for iOS received its previous major update last month, thereby gaining a more streamlined navigation scheme and other design tweaks.
