Warner Bros. Looking To Make Movie Based On Temple Run With 'Harry Potter' Producer

November 13, 2013
Having invaded millions of mobile device screens, Temple Run appears to have begun its journey toward the big screen. According to a scoop by The Hollywood Reporter (via Touch Arcade), Warner Bros. is in negotiations to make a film adaptation of the seminal endless running game. And the producer said to be attached to the incipient project is none other than David Heyman. A frequent collaborator of Warner Bros., Heyman most recently produced the critically and commercially successful sci-fi survival drama "Gravity," starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney. But Heyman is undoubtedly best known for producing all eight installments of the “Harry Potter” film series, all of which are also critically and commercially successful. And now, Heyman is reportedly set to apply his movie magic touch to the Temple Run franchise with a Hollywood film adaptation. As noted by The Hollywood Reporter, the adaptation’s story “would center on an explorer who, having stolen an idol from a temple, is chased by demonic forces” — which is pretty much the basic premise of the game itself. Released on iOS by Imangi Studios in 2011, Temple Run is considered the granddaddy of endless running games. It has resulted in a sequel, Temple Run 2, and a couple of spinoff tie-in games licensed by Disney, Temple Run: Brave and Temple Run: Oz. In addition, it has “inspired” countless behind-the-back auto-running games on iOS and other platforms. Temple Run has been adapted for the digital comic book medium in the form of Temple Run Comics.
