Apple Releases 12 Days Of Gifts Holiday Giveaway App, Also Available In US
December 10, 2013
Apple has just released this year's edition of its annual holiday freebie app, 12 Days of Gifts. And for the first time, the company has made the app and, by extension, its offered giveaways available for customers in the U.S.
That's right: previously open to customers in Europe and Canada only, Apple's 12 Days of Gifts promotion is now open to customers in the U.S. and, apparently, in other select countries as well.
With the app, users in supported countries can download a digital gift — an app, a game, a song, a book, or a movie — every day for, as the app's name suggests, 12 days. Specifically, 12 Days of Gifts offers a different gift daily from the day after Christmas, Dec. 26, 2013, all the way to the day of the Epiphany, Jan. 6, 2014.
Here's the sole block of text in the app's App Store description:
From 26 December – 6 January, you can download a gift each day—songs, apps, books, films and more—with the 12 Days of Gifts app. Each day’s gift will only be available for 24 hours, so download the free app to make sure you don’t miss out. Please note: Not all content is available in all countries.Apple's 12 Days of Gifts app is available now in the App Store as a free universal download for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad running iOS 7.0 or later. Upon launching the app for the first time, you're prompted to set the iTunes Store that matches the country or region of the billing address for your Apple ID. You can also enable push notifications to be automatically notified when a new gift becomes available. The app currently defaults to a screen counting down to the promotion's start, i.e., "17 days until your first gift arrives." In the meantime, you can tap the upper left button to read the FAQ and the upper right button to let others know about 12 Days of Gifts. The launch of 12 Days of Gifts comes just a few days after Apple began giving away some free music in a "Holiday Cheer" playlist through the Apple Store app.
