Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition Unlocks First Update Since Its App Store Comeback

December 14, 2013

Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition has just received what may very well be the biggest round of improvements to hit the game since its launch on iPad a year ago.

Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition is a remake of the classic role-playing video game Baldur's Gate and its expansion, Baldur's Gate: Tales of the Sword Coast. Released in the App Store in December last year, it was pulled last June on account of certain publishing contractual issues. But it made its triumphant return in August.

And now, Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition has been updated with the following improvements:

  • Dual-class characters now receive the correct number of hit points when imported
  • Journal entries no longer disappear when scrolling on the Journal screen
  • All portraits in-game now use the highest-resolution version available
  • Arriving on the east side of an area now correctly places the party at the edge of the map
  • Spells that can be written into the mage’s spellbook now display a green overlay
  • User journal entries created during multiplayer no longer appear as invalid strings when created
  • Portraits larger than 1024x1024 now display an error message if selected on the Custom Portrait screen instead of crashing the game
  • Characters that deplete a stack of ammunition will now automatically switch to the next stack if one is available
  • Combat music no longer cuts off when changing interface screens
  • Subtitles now display in the correct width during movies
  • The game no longer remains paused after resting (this prevents duplicate spawns from appearing in towns or other areas where rest is interrupted)
  • In languages other than English, dual-classed thieves no longer get stuck with x0 backstab multipliers instead of x3

The new version of Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition is available now in the App Store as a free update or as a new $9.99 download. The game is compatible with iPad and iPad mini running iOS 5.1 or later.

The game's sequel, Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition, is expected to be launched in the App Store later this month. Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition, in turn, is a remake of Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn and its expansion, Baldur's Gate II: Throne of Bhaal.
