Beyonce’s New Album Breaks An iTunes Record

December 16, 2013
Released exclusively through iTunes on Friday, Apple announced today that Beyonce’s new self-titled album has become the service’s fastest-selling album ever. In just three days, 828,773 albums were sold worldwide. It also broke U.S. first week album sales with 617,213 copies sold. The album topped the charts in an astounding 104 countries as well. The so-called “visual” album features 14 songs and 17 videos shot in numerous locations like New York City, Sydney, Paris, and Rio de Janiero. Apple is heavily promoting the album in both the desktop and iOS version of the iTunes Store. Available to download now for $15.99 through iTunes, the individual songs can be purchased on Friday, Dec. 20. Buyers can select from either an explicit or clean version of the album. While streaming music services are getting the bulk of publicity recently, it seems that the record-buying public still flocks to unique content from a well-established artist. And even though I’m a little old for Beyonce, I’m definitely excited to hear about the rare bootlegs from The Beatles that will launch exclusively through iTunes soon.
