Entertainment Weekly's Newsstand App Finally Goes Universal With iPhone Support
December 3, 2013
A couple of years after its launch on Apple's Newsstand, the iOS edition of Entertainment Weekly has finally been updated with universal support.
Entertainment Weekly for iOS was released in December 2011 as an app that's compatible with iPad only. But now, following its just-issued universal update, the Newsstand app has been made compatible with iPhone and iPod touch, too.
But while it's now compatible with iPhone and iPod touch, the newly updated Entertainment Weekly app doesn't appear to be optimized for the the smaller iOS devices' screens. As you can see in the screenshots above and below, there's considerable letterboxing going on in the app's iPhone and iPod touch edition.
Nevertheless, it does serve the film, television, music, theatre, book and popular culture coverage that Entertainment Weekly is famous for in a handy format.
The new universal version of Entertainment Weekly is available now in the App Store for free. The app is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad running iOS 6.0 or later.
The app was previously updated last July with Retina iPad support.
