Hey, Scout! Scout By Telenav Goes Hands-Free With New Voice Command Feature

December 18, 2013
Hey, scout! Scout, the popular GPS navigation app developed by Telenav, has just gone hands-free. Through its latest update, Scout has gained a new feature that allows for hands-free voice commands. In fact, with the arrival of this voice recognition feature, Scout is said to be the first mobile navigation app to support hands-free search and navigation. Akin to Google's "OK Google" feature, Scout's new feature is activated using a hotword. In Scout's case, it's "Hey Scout!" As explained by Telenav:
Here’s how it works: With Scout running in the foreground, you (or your passenger) simply say, “Hey Scout” to launch the app’s voice recognition search capabilities. After the beep, just say, “Drive Home,” “Drive to Best Buy,” “Find cheap gas,” or “Map of San Francisco.”
If you can't see the video embedded above, please click here. Hey Scout supports business search, address entry, and common driving commands such as "Resume trip" and "Drive to work." Apart form Hey Scout, the latest update to Scout introduces Facebook login for syncing favorites, recent places, and settings across devices. Also including bug fixes, the new version of Scout is available now in the App Store for free. The app is optimized for iPhone and iPod touch running iOS 6.0 or later.
