Confide In Your Friends Off The Record With This New Ephemeral Messaging App

January 10, 2014
The ephemeral messaging app space has just welcomed its latest addition: a new app called Confide. Confide seeks to do with text what Snapchat has been doing with photos. That is, it also aims to offer off-the-record and "self-destructing" communication, but with text messages instead of images. Here are Confide's key features:
  • Messages disappear forever once they’re read
  • Swiping prevents screenshots
  • Instantly send messages to any email address
  • Messages you send are private and encrypted
  • Read receipts tell you when your message is read
  • It’s FREE
Now, you might be wondering, "Even if messages disappear once they're read, can't users take screenshots of them anyway?" Well, Confide effectively discourages users from taking screenshots of messages by concealing messages until they are swiped. In addition, senders are alerted if recipients attempt to take screenshots of messages. Another feature that sets Confide apart from Snapchat and other ephemeral messaging apps is its reliance on email addresses rather than phone numbers. So, if a message is sent to someone who doesn't have the app, that person will receive an email saying that there's a message waiting to be opened in Confide. Confide is available now in the App Store for free. It's optimized for iPhone and iPod touch running iOS 7.0 or later.
