Overview App Updated With Support For Syncing With iOS And Mac Calendars

January 4, 2014
Overview Calendar has just been updated with a much-requested feature. Released just last month, Overview is a unique calendar app that presents a scrollable Time Machine-like timeline of dates rather than a typical grid. For more information on the app, check out my colleague Christine's original review. In her otherwise favorable review, Christine pointed out a glaring omission in the initial version of Overview:
I like the idea of Overview, but I don’t necessarily like the fact that I have to basically start over. I would have liked to see the app fetch my current Calendar app, or at least provide some kind of syncing method with a calendar service such as Google Calendar. At the moment, Overview is a standalone app, and there is no backup of data either, so you will need to make sure to be extra careful with your schedule if something should happen to your device. Because of this, I can’t fully recommend Overview, as cool as it may be. Hopefully this can be changed in the future.
Fortunately, this omission has been rectified with the latest update to Overview. The update adds support for syncing with the iOS Calendar app and, by extension via iCloud, the Mac calendar app as well. Note, though, that iCloud calendar sync is off by default. You have to enable it first in the options screen to keep your calendar items synced via iCloud. The new version of Overview Calendar is available now in the App Store. The app is optimized for iPhone and iPod touch running iOS 7.0 or later. Overview Calendar is normally priced at $2.99, but it's available for free for a limited time only.
