Report Says Upcoming Apple TV Update Will Finally Add Games

January 23, 2014
Apple TV may soon become a lot more useful, and fun. According to iLounge, which has a nearly spotless rumor reporting track record, the Apple TV will soon add true support for games. The update could land in March, or even earlier. Here’s more from the report:
We’ve heard that developers are currently working on Bluetooth controller options, and it’s expected that games could be downloaded directly to the Apple TV rather than relying on another iOS device as an intermediary.
Another developer told the site that game support could even be possible for current Apple TV boxes. That would be an interesting development as both the second- and third-generation hardware has only a paltry 8GB of internal storage that is used for buffering video content. But iCloud could possibly be a solution to that issue. It’s been almost two years since the current third-generation box was introduced, so a refreshed box would definitely be welcomed. And the addition of an actual App Store could finally move the so-called Apple “hobby product” into the mainstream. In 2013, Apple pundit MG Siegler told his followers on Twitter that new hardware would arrive in October. But that prediction didn’t pan out, and Siegler said later that the next-generation of hardware would be “delayed a bit.”
