Rymdkapsel Makes The Leap To Desktop, Available Now For OS X
Remember rymdkapsel, the “Tetris meets Star Command” iOS game that combines the best elements of base-building, tower-defense, and the classic puzzler genre all in one $3.99 package? If you lost more than a handful of precious day-hours immersed in rymdkapsel’s unique world, we have good news for you but bad news for your personal schedule: rymdkapsel has made the leap to desktop.
As of yesterday, the game is available for Mac, PC, and Linux computers from either Steam, the Humble Store, or from rymdkapsel’s own website. You can pick up the title for $7.99, and minimum requirements for Mac machines include:
- OS: OSX Mountain Lion (10.8)
- Processor: 1.5 GHz Core2Duo
- Memory: 2 GB RAM
- Graphics: OpenGL 1.4 or better
- Hard Drive: 100 MB available space
Also available is a special “Monolith” edition of rymdkapsel, and this includes DRM free versions of the game for Mac, PC, and Linux, the original Android app, and a 45-minute soundtrack (which is also available to purchase separately for €4). You can pick up this edition of the game exclusively from the Humble Store for the slightly higher price of $11.99.
Back in August, we highlighted rymdkapsel in our daily “Today’s Best Apps” column, and also in a dedicated review. Despite finding one small flaw concerning how the application handles saved games, my colleague Christine was really pleased with rymdkapsel and gave it a glowing appraisal. She concluded:
Rymdkapsel is definitely something else, providing a magical experience once you understand the fundamentals of the game. This is definitely the type of game that you need to experience yourself to know what makes it so good, but it’s definitely worth it.
If you haven’t taken rymdkapsel for iOS for a spin yet, the game is still available to download in the App Store for $3.99. As mentioned, the Mac, PC, and Linux iterations will set players back $7.99, or $11.99 for the Monolith edition.
